Upper Strathconon

Adult whooper swans feeding in fields

Thursday, 11 November 2010

Our next stop was overlooking Loch Meig where several Goldeneyes, Tufted Ducks, Mallards and Wigeon were on the water. We drove on to the car park by Loch Beannacharain and continued along the glen on foot. At the end of the loch a very entertaining Dipper was diving into the water in search of food. Birds were not very numerous but we did see Raven, Buzzard, Kestrel, Siskin and a flock of more than 20 Hooded Crows along with several other common species. As we returned to the car park we found a pair of Stonechats and three female Goosanders.
We drove back down the glen for a lunch stop where, as soon as we got out of the cars, we saw our main target for the day. Three Golden Eagles (two adult and one young) were circling round a nearby peak giving excellent views to all. A walk along the road produced nothing new and as the weather was beginning to close in it was decided to end an interesting day's outing here.
