March and April News for 2012

March and April News for 2012

Friday 2 March sees a welcome return to Letchworth for former BBC Wildlife cameraman and raconteur, Michael Leach, who is coming to give us a talk about the owls of the world. Michael is a truly outstanding speaker: this talk is highly recommended! On 18 March we visit Titchfield Haven NNR on the Hampshire coast. The reserve boasts a large colony of breeding cetti's warblers and we should also see some early arriving summer visitors, such as chiffchaff and sandwich tern. This is a joint trip with RSPB Stevenage Local Group, so early booking is strongly recommended! Our "April" indoor meeting has been brought forward to 30 March because of Easter. We are delighted to welcome David Elcombe as our speaker, who will be talking about Britain's wild orchids. On 15 April we visit Walberswick in Suffolk by coach, looking for resident birds such as bittern and Dartford warbler, as well as newly-arrived migrants such as sedge and grasshopper warblers. Keep an eye on the "Events" page of this web site, as we will shortly be announcing our programme of spring walks and trips.
