May and June News for 2012

May and June News for 2012

The final indoor meeting of the season will be held on Friday 4 May, when Gwyn Williams from the RSPB will be explaining the work that our organisation does in protecting the UK's most endangered species. The talk will be preceded by a short AGM. This is, however, our busiest period of the year for outdoor meetings, with coach trips organised to visit the Peak District on 20 May (this is our best opportunity to see special upland breeding birds such as pied flycatcher, which we will see when we visit the RSPB Coombes Valley reserve) and Stodmarsh in Kent on 17 June, when there is a possibility that we may also go on to RSPB Blean Woods reserve in the afternoon to look for nightingales and heath fritillary butterflies (weather permitting). We also have a very busy programme of local spring walks lined up (for full details see the "Events" page), with visits to Little Paxton Gravel Pits, Oughtonhead LNR, Tyttenhanger Gravel Pits, Broom Gravel Pits and, as a "grand finale" on 20 June, to Lakenheath Fen and Thetford Forest.
We will also have a stall at both the Letchworth Food and Garden Festival (Saturday 19 May) and Letchworth Festival (Saturday 23 June). Come along and see us there!
