January and February News for 2013

Happy New Year! Jeff Harrison brings in our New Year at 'The Settlement' on 4 January with a talk dedicated to one of our most colourful birds, the kingfisher. The talk is called 'Kingfishers - Up Close and Personal'. Our first coach trip of the New Year, on 20 January, takes us to two Breckland reserves close to the Norfolk / Suffolk border. Lynford Arboretum hosts some quality woodland birds, which could include crossbill, hawfinch and marsh tit, whilst Lackford Lakes EWT should provide a good variety of water birds, with kingfisher and water rail both possible.

Richard Revels pays a return visit to 'The Settlement' on 1 February to give us a talk, entitled 'Wild South Wales'. His excellent photography will doubtless show us the fantastic wildlife of this area in the best possible light. On 17 February we make possibly our longest ever coach trip, to WWT Slimbridge in Gloucestershire. This excellent venue on the banks of the Severn, with its combination of wild habitats and wildfowl collections, should provide a real treat for bird-watchers and photographers alike, making up for what will inevitably be a long day.
