November and December News for 2013

On Friday 8 November we are delighted to welcome back wildlife author and photographer Bill Coster to 'The Settlement'. Bill presented a fantastic slide show on a recent visit: this time he guides us through a two month tour of Florida's wetlands with striking images of waders, raptors and the 'amazing diving brown pelicans'. On Sunday 17 November we make an overdue return to the flooded meadows of RSPB Pulborough Brooks. This attractive Arun Valley reserve is a focal point for winter wildfowl and waders, as well as attendant raptors. The reserve boasts an excellent visitor centre.

On Friday 6 December we welcome back an old friend, Barry Kaufmann-Wright, to 'The Settlement'. Barry will be talking about the four seasons as seen by broad-leaved woodland and the variety of flora and fauna within it. Our final field trip of the year is an own transport visit on Sunday 15 December to Little Paxton gravel pits, where we expect to see a good variety of wildfowl and woodland birds in the morning, followed by a visit to beautiful, mysterious Woodwalton Fen, where bittern and hen harrier are possible and Chinese water deer are abundant.
