November and December News 2014

In a change to the advertised programme we welcome Luke Massey to "The Settlement" on Friday 7 November. Luke is a young, local photographer who is rapidly making a name for himself in the fields of wildlife filming and photography. He has already visited many parts of the world and worked with some well known personalities: this is a talk not to be missed! On Sunday 16 November we make a return visit to what is rapidly becoming one of our favourite reserves: RSPB Frampton Marsh, near Boston in Lincolnshire. We will be looking for wintering waders, songbirds and, in particular, raptors which could include merlin, peregrine and hen harrier. On Friday 5 December Chris Ward makes a welcome return visit to "The Settlement" to talk about and show stunning images of birds' feathers: their purpose, variation and modification for flight. Finally, on Sunday 14 December, we use our own transport to visit the bird rich reserves of the Lee Valley, starting at Fishers Green (Essex) and working our way north to finish at the Amwell nature reserve. We will look out for bittern, rare gulls and wintering wildfowl (including smew) on the way.
