March and April News 2015

Our season continues with a talk on Friday 6 March at "The Settlement" by ecologist Michael Keith Lucas. Michael will be taking us on a botanical safari through the rainforests and deserts of Namibia and South Africa: as well as the native plant life he will be talking about associated species of mammals, birds and reptiles in this very special area. On Sunday 15 March we will be visiting two sites in Essex. After spending the morning at the excellent Abberton Reservoir EWT reserve we will be moving on to the wild and beautiful Blackwater estuary at Tollesbury, where raptors such as short-eared owl and peregrine may be seen hunting.
On Friday 10 April we welcome Thomas Hanahoe FRPS for his first visit to "The Settlement". Thomas is an outstanding wildlife photographer and will be talking about his passion for bird photography: this evening should be a visual treat! On Sunday 19 April we will visit Sculthorpe Moor and Pensthorpe nature reserves, near Fakenham in North Norfolk. Both are new reserves for our Local Group, so this will be a journey of discovery! In the morning we will visit the compact and attractive Hawk and Owl Trust reserve at Sculthorpe Moor, before moving on to the much larger Pensthorpe reserve (entry fee), with its lakes, wader scrape and collection of captive birds (including bearded tits and various wader species).
