September and October News 2015

We are delighted to welcome Richard Pople to our first indoor meeting on 4 September, at "The Settlement". Richard will be talking about the birds and sights of Singapore, Australia and New Zealand, including bowerbirds, albatrosses, penguins, Uluru and the Great Barrier Reef. On Sunday 20th we will be visiting Cley NWT by coach. Cley in September is a fantastic place for birdwatchers, as breeding birds such as bittern, marsh harrier and bearded tit compete for our attention with passage migrants and departing summer visitors, which regularly include rarities!

We welcome Russell Savory to "The Settlement" on 2 October. Russell has spent many years studying the wildlife of a disused aerodrome: his presentation will include a short film on the owls and water voles that can be found there. On Sunday 18th we share a coach with members of Stevenage Local Group as we visit Gibraltar Point NNR, near Skegness in Lincolnshire. This RAMSAR listed site, which includes three miles of coastline, boasts a wide variety of habitats. We will be looking for, amongst other things, passage migrants and returning winter visitors.
