Group Leader's News March 2021

Group Leader's News March 2021

With the continuation of lockdown, we are having to content ourselves for now with Zoom indoor meetings and 'coffee mornings'. Jonathan Taylor, RSPB manager for the Ouse Fen project, spoke about this massive undertaking, which is already bringing booming bitterns closer than ever to our 'neck of the woods', on the 5th. We have had 50 or more logins for this and Dominic Couzens' talk in February, so our meetings are attracting quite a bit of interest. Next up is Mary Colwell, the writer, author and environmentalist. Mary is passionate about curlews and how we should act to halt and then reverse the declines that have recently been seen in this species. Her talk (on 9 April) will, of course, be about this species - see our 'events' page.

Whilst we don't plan to resume indoor meetings at 'The Settlement' until September at the earliest we will, as lockdown restrictions are eased, be able to meet (in small groups) for some spring walks, starting in April. Initially these will be for Local Group members only at local venues, but I hope to broaden them out and advertise them on our 'events' page when there is a further easing of restrictions: watch this space! These events will be 'own transport' only: we will resume our regular coach trips when all restrictions have been lifted and members feel confident to mix in larger groups - hopefully later this year!
