Group Leader's News August 2021

Following feedback from members, the committee has decided that we will return to 'The Settlement' in Letchworth for our indoor meetings, starting in September. The first meeting is on Friday 3 September, when Stuart Elsom will be talking about the wildlife of Cuba, one of the world's most photogenic countries! The title of his talk is 'Charismatic Cuba'. Of course, Covid-19 procedures will have to be followed for this and (probably) subsequent meetings and there will be no refreshments available at this first meeting, although of course you can bring your own. However, it will be great to meet up with old friends again, and the talk is guaranteed to be a good one. The visitors fee for non-members of the Local Group is still £3.00.

For (mainly) financial reasons, our visit to RSPB Lakenheath Fen on Sunday 19 September will be by own transport, rather than by coach. We hope to run the coach trips in October (to Gibraltar Point) and November (to RSPB Frampton Marsh). The coach company has had to considerably increase its prices, so we will be charging £20 per person for these trips and bookings (with money) will have to be made at least 14 days in advance. If you are not a Local Group member, please contact me in the first instance for ways to pay. You do not need to be an RSPB member to go on these trips and juniors (accompanied by an adult) pay just £10. We will need over 30 bookings for each trip to make them financially viable. We hope to continue to run coach trips in 2022, but a lot will depend on how the trips this autumn go. Unfortunately, I can't update the 'Events' page (the RSPB has closed this service for all Local Groups), so please keep an eye on this news page for updates about our indoor and outdoor events. I hope that you will be able to continue to support the Local Group through these still difficult times.
