With the coronavirus outbreak starting to gain momentum we were pleased to still welcome 30 members of our Local Group and the Stevenage Local Group onto the coach to Nottingham. We enjoyed a warm welcome at the reserve and soon found some interesting birds (including a very tame whooper swan and some equally tame stock doves) near the visitor centre. Numerous Cetti's warblers were heard and occasionally even seen around the reserve and we found one or two early chiffchaffs as well. A barnacle goose on the other side of the River Trent was a good sighting and goosanders and goldeneyes were amongst many species of duck seen on the lakes. Woodland birds included nuthatch and treecreeper. Other sightings included a mink and a pair of frogs in amplexus! The bird list for the day reached 67 species. Sadly, this was to be our last field trip of the season as the coronavirus outbreak took hold. Hopefully normal service will be resumed soon...
