Coach Trip to RSPB Leighton Moss

Our monthly Sunday coach trip.

RSPB Leighton Moss in Lancashire is an excellent, all year round wildlife site. We will be looking out for marsh / water birds with the possibility of water rail, bearded tit, Little Egret and bittern. Getting more regular are sightings of Great White Egret and Cattle Egret! Also Avocet should be back and visible from the Eric Morecambe hide.

Otter are now regular on the reserve and on recent trips members have had excellent sighting.

Borneo: Land of Mud and Mist

Tonight we welcome back Steve Lovell who have given us several excellent talks previously. Steve established his own Garden Design & Landscaping company in 1993. In conjunction with the gardening services, Steve also undertakes Adult Education classes and has given lectures to groups and societies for the last 15 years including work for the RSPB. He has a wide range of talks using the information he has gleaned from his travels worldwide.

So why not come along and find out about the distant island of Borneo?

Coach Trip to Sherwood Forest and St. Aidens

Our monthly Sunday coach trip.
Two new venues for us today. In the morning we will travel to Sherwood Forest and the new RSPB visitor centre. The surrounding ancient Oak woodland and heathland should have a good variety of birds including many summer visitors which are just arriving at this time.

In the afternoon we move to the excellent RSPB St. Aidens reserve which is maturing into a superb reserve. There will be a good variety of wetland and marsh birds which should include Black Necked Grebe, which are a speciality at this site and best seen at this time of year.

AGM & Talk "Bird Photography"

Firstly we will run through our AGM as quickly as possible.

Following the AGM we have a visit from a new speaker, Alan Saunders, an aspiring professional photographer who lives in Stockport, Cheshire. Wildlife photography is an obsession of his and he uses all his free time going out trying to capture photographs of wildlife, particularly birds and challenges himself to take active shots rather than just portraits.

Coach Trip to South Humberside Estuary

Our monthly Sunday coach trip.
This trip will cover sites such as Read's Island (from the estuary shore), Far Ings, where we will spend the most time and Waters' Edge Country Park for wetland, reedbed and estuary birds with the possibility of Avocet, Marsh Harrier, Bittern, Bearded Tit etc. There is always the possibility of rarer birds turning up in this area as passage is still ongoing at this time.

Once again we welcome back Paul Hobson, this time with his talk "Changing Seasons". Paul has always entertained and informed us with his talks and I'm sure for the last talk of this programme it will be a great evening again.

Originally from Manchester Paul Hobson came to Sheffield to study a degree in 'Environmental Science' where he specialised in wildlife conservation. He trained as a teacher and worked as a lecturer of Environmental Science in Sheffield before he became a full time wildlife photographer.

Coach Trip to RSPB South Stack & RSPB Conwy

Location: Sets off from Springwood Car Park at 8.00 am - returning there at approx 7.30 pm.

Our monthly Sunday coach trip. Our final trip of this programme sees us taking the journey to North Wales. RSPB South Stack is an excellent cliff reserve on Anglesey, and is a great place to encounter Chough as well as an assortment of seabirds.

After South Stack we will make a short visit to Holyhead Harbour where Black Guillemot can be seen, we have seen them here on our last few visits.

In the afternoon we will visit RSPB Conwy, which has a good assortment of estuary and wetland birds.

Both reserves also have excellent cafes. Why not come along and enjoy this Summer day out with us?
Please remember this is an 8 AM start.

Car Trip - Waders

Our annual August car trip to find passage waders and any other birds. We usually don't travel too far but will try and see any reported rare waders if possible. Likely venues include; Blacktoft Sands, North Cave Wetlands & Old Moor. The actual venue / venues will be decided on the morning before we set off.
