Our monthly Sunday coach trip. For the autumn start of our coach trips we are visiting what is probably Britain's premier birdwatching reservoir. We will be visiting the Egleton Reserve which is excellent for a variety of birds and at this time of year there should be a good selection of passage wader together with wildfowl and possibly a lingering Osprey? Red Kite & Hobby are also possible. Why not come along for the day trip with us?

Please remember this is an 8 AM start.

Coach Trip to YWT Spurn Point

Our monthly Sunday coach trip.

Spurn Point is an excellent migration site, run by the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust, and at this time of year we hope to see a variety of migrant birds on the mud flats, ponds, hedges, fields or indeed over/on the sea.

On the way in, and for those that wish to we will make a drop off at Kilnsea Wetlands which is an excellent addition to the Spurn area and has already proved attractive to migrant waders and wildfowl. There is also the new visitor centre with cafe, toilets and great views over the estuary.

John Gardner is a professional commercial and portrait photographer based in Wakefield. His photographic career was born from his passion for wildlife and in particular birds. He also works as a wildlife and landscape photographer and has taken nature images from all around the world but particularly Yorkshire wildlife.

For our last trip of 2019 we visit Pennington Flash in the morning, which should give us a good variety of water & scrub / woodland birds, Kingfisher can give great views here! Then on to the excellent RSPB Burton Mere Wetland which has a good selection of habitat and should add a good few birds to the days sightings, it is a reserve that often produces scarce birds. So why not come along and enjoy the final trip of 2019 with us?

Tim Melling from the RSPB regional office is making another welcome visit to our group, this time with his talk about the huge country of China. Tim is sure to be enthusiastic about his subject so why not come along and enjoy the evening with us?

Tim Melling has had a keen interest in all forms of natural history since childhood. His main interest is birds, although he has considerable expertise in mammals, butterflies, moths, dragonflies and wild flowers. He has worked in nature conservation all his life and has been conservation officer for the RSPB since 1988. He is no stranger to our group as he has given us many talks which are always very informative, humorous and well presented.

Craig Ralston,the senior manager at Lower Derwent Valley National Nature Reserve is coming to inform us about the great wildlife and conservation work that is going on at this reserve. The Lower Derwent Valley National Nature Reserve is made up of a series of flood meadows, pastures and woodland. The reserve supports a rich diversity of plant species together with outstanding populations of breeding and wintering birds.

We continue with this annual trip for the group, and it is always a popular start to the new year.  At Southport, we will cover the seashore as well as RSPB Marshside reserve. Geoff Trinder has been giving talks to various wildlife organisations for a number of years, and this will be his second visit to the group. Geoff taught art for 31 years and became head of department at a comprehensive school. He is deputy chairman of the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust and has been a warden / manager for two of the trusts SSSI nature reserves.

Geoff's photography is brilliant, so do try and not miss this talk about Sri Lanka!

Our monthly Sunday coach trip.

RSPB Leighton Moss in Lancashire is an excellent, all year round wildlife site. We will be looking out for marsh / water birds with the possibility of water rail, bearded tit, Little Egret and bittern. Getting more regular are sightings of Great White Egret and Cattle Egret!

Otter are now regular on the reserve and on recent trips members have had excellent sighting.

For this trip we are once again visiting the excellent RSPB Frampton Marsh reserve, which is near to Boston in Lincolnshire. This is a great time of year to visit this wetland reserve and should provide a great diversity of birds which could include Turtle Dove, Lekking Summer plumaged Ruff and other spring migrants. The reserve has a number of good hides and walks as well as a welcoming visitors centre. Why not come along and enjoy a spring day out with us?

Coach Trip to North Cave & RSPB Bempton Cliffs

Our monthly Sunday coach trip. Our final trip of this programme sees us firstly visiting the excellent Yorkshire Wildlife Trust reserve of North Cave Wetland. Here we should see a good selection of water / marsh birds together with some farmland species. It is also very good for wild flowers and dragonflies. At Bempton we will visit the RSPB's Bempton Cliffs reserve to see the magical spectacle of thousands of nesting sea birds that include the large Gannet colony as well as Puffins, Guillemots etc. Why not come along and enjoy this spectacle of birds with us?
