Left Huddersfield at 8.35am in a 41 seater coach arrived at Foxglove Covert at 10.30 am First stop the Guard Room to Check in as the reserve is In Catterick Army Garrison. After being inspected and verified we were escorted through the Garrison to the reserve. At the entrance we were met by the reserve manager, who kindly took several people to the visitor centre about half a mile away. The rest of the group walked via the lake and the dipping ponds Redpoll, Grey Lag Geese and Goldcrests were seen by the lake and Mallard and Moorhen were on it. In the dipping Ponds were Male toad and Sticklebacks and nearby were Robin and Reed Bunting. At the visitor Centre Bird ringing was in progress various birds were ringed including Female Greater Spotted Woodpecker and Dunnock. The group then split and was taken on a tour of the reserve birds seen included Curlew, Buzzard, Chiff-Chaff, Jackdaw and Roe Deer were glimpsed near the Wetland Hide. We had hoped to see a Tawny Owl Family, but they were not visible in the areas visited. On to Saltholme birds seen included Lapwing, Canada Geese, waterfowl including Gadwall, Widgeon and Shelduck, little and Great Crested Grebes, plus Reed Bunting and Barnacle Geese. Our last sighting at Saltholme was a magnificent Fox close to the visitor centre under the bird feeders. Last stop was Greetham Creek here we saw 8/10 Avocets, Dunlin, Black-tailed Godwit, Red-breasted Merganser and Common Seals. Everyone had a good day and that Fox Glove Covert warranted another visit perhaps even a full day one. We arrived back at a still sunny Huddersfield at 6.45pm.
