RSPB trip to Eccup, Harewood and Blacktoft Sands 25th Mar 2018

The group walked through the woodland to Eccup Res. On route to the res we saw a good selection of woodland birds including Tree creeper, Nuthatch and a Great spotted woodpecker. On Eccup res Greylag goose and wigeon could be seen. Walking through the farmland on towards Harewood and the coach we saw a number of Yellowhammers in the hedges and there were many farmland birds including Lapwing, Curlew, Skylark and Snipe. A great number of Red kites could be seen on the whole route, Buzzards and a Sparrow hawk were also seen. We also saw some mad March hares and Roe deer and we left Harewood at 12.30 arriving at Blacktoft an hour later.
At Blacktoft we had good views of Marsh Harriers and Avocets, also Whopper swans were seen in a field at a distance. A good number of ducks including Pochard, Gadwall, Wigeon, Teal, Shoveler Shelduck, Coot & Moorhen were also seen. There was also a pair of toads. We left Blacktoft at 5pm. Approx. 58 species of bird was seen, 19 adults and one child attended at a charge of £18 each.
