Yesterday there were three of us on the car trip, David Jagger, John Wyles and myself. We visited Blacktoft Sands in the morning and Old Moor in the afternoon.

John & David both got a new species with a Buff-Breasted Sandpiper at Blacktoft that was found on Saturday and is still there this evening. Personally I have only seen one before and that was abroad so a first in Britain for me. Although hidden when we first arrived at the Marshland hide it did eventually give excellent views. Other waders at Blacktoft were; Wood Sandpiper, Green Sandpiper, Greenshank, Spotted Redshank, Redshank, Ruff, Black Tailed Godwit, Lapwing and Snipe. Quite a number of Bearded Tit were also showing and we also had Yellow Wagtail.

At Old Moor it was rather hot, however we did get an extra wader with Common Sandpiper, quite a few Common Tern were around and we did see a very distant Barn Owl at the entrance to its nest box.

11 waders for the day and some good other birds too, an excellent if hot day out in Yorkshire.
