RSPB trip to Marshside and Martin Mere 20th of Jan 2019

We set off from Springwood carpark at 8.30 am. When we arrived at Southport the Tide was very high making it easier to view the large number of waterfowl including Pintail, Wigan, Shelduck, Pochard, Pink footed geese and Tufted duck. We were also fortunate to see a large number of Birds of prey including a Peregrine, Merlin and at a long distance through a scope stood on a post a Hen Harrier could be seen. Waders seen included Black tailed Godwit, Golden Plover, Curlew, Redshank and Lapwing. Among the Black headed Gulls was a Mediterranean Gull. We arrived at Martin Mere around one a clock, as usual it provide a great number of birds to be seen. Adding Marsh Harrier, Buzzard, Sparrow Hawk and 2 Tawny Owls to our list of Birds of Prey. As usual there were large numbers of Whooper Swans, Pin tails, Black tailed Godwits and Ruff. At the feeding station Tree sparrows, Long tailed Tits, Greenfinch and Reed Bunting. Mammals seen included Brown Rat, Brown Hare and Roe Deer. We left Martin Mere at 4.30,
