We arrived at the new Sherwood visitor centre at 10.30. After viewing the Major Oak which is very impressive the group concentrated on bird watching. As we were still in the Easter Holidays the park was very busy which made thing slightly difficult. However Tree pipit and red start and garden warbler were heard, Great spotted woodpecker was seen and there were good views of Blackcap. We left Sherwood at 1 pm heading to St Aiden's were we were greeted by a Kestrel on the great machine "odd Ball". It had caught a rodent which he was showing off to the crowd below. Behind "Odd ball" sat on the fence was a little owl. It was not hard to find really great birds at St Aidens, also seen was Yellow wagtails at the feet of the cattle, a Bar tailed godwit nearby in full breeding plumage and Black necked grebes among the reeds. There a good number of water fowl and it was good to hear the reed and sedge warblers. We set home at 5pm arriving home at 5.45.
