Field Meeting

Location: Meet at car park. Map ref TM328377

Felixstowe Ferry and River Deben for wildfowl, waders and farmland birds.
We meet at the car park for a walk round Felixstowe Ferry and the surrounding area. Whilst winter waders and wildfowl will have mainly departed there may be some lingering birds along with the first breeding birds on the saltings. Felixstowe Ferry is surrounded by areas of meadow, golf course, scrub and reedbed, so a good variety of woodland and marshland birds should be noted including early summer visitors and perhaps the odd migrant or two. In the right weather conditions sea watching can be good from near the ferry and our route on the day will depend on the weather and tidal conditions so we can make the most of our visit to see the birds in the area. 2-3 hours, 2-3 miles. Leader Stephen Marginson. All welcome. Please Note - walking can be muddy and exposed.

Field Meeting

Location: Meet at Marbled White Drive, off Stoke Park Drive. Map Ref TM143417

Kiln Meadows and Spring Wood for woodland birds and early summer visitors.
We meet at Marbled White Drive where there is ample parking. We will then do a circuit covering Kiln Meadows, Millennium Wood and Spring Wood to view the birdlife and in particular the prolific wildflowers, including the Bluebells In Spring Wood, which make a magnificent sight at this time of the year. A wide variety of woodland and scrubland birds should be around including summer visitors and we should be able to hear a wide range of songsters which inhabit the area. Nightingales come to the area each summer and we may be fortunate enough to hear this fabulous bird. The area is one of last haunts of the Willow Warbler in the Ipswich area and it will be interesting to see if this fabulous songster returns again in 2019. We may venture to Thorrington Hall to view Buzzard and Red Kite which are frequent in this area, along with groups of buntings and finches if time and conditions allow. 2 hours, 2-3 miles. Leader Stephen Marginson. All welcome. Please note walking can be wet and muddy.
