RSPB Volunteer & Farmer Alliance Farmland Bird Survey Project

The Volunteer & Farmer Alliance project involves providing farmland bird surveys for farmers who would like to do more to help the birds on their land.

The surveys are usually completed between April & June, they involve 3-4 early morning visits to an allocated farm, the boundaries of the fields are walked and all birds seen are recorded and mapped. The three survey maps are then returned to me for collating and a final map is produced.

I am looking for volunteers to help complete VFA surveys around Caton, Hornby, Conder Green and Forton. Then further north around Sedburgh, Shap, Hawkshead, Haverthwaite and Kirkby Lonsdale.

Surveyors are required to have good farmland bird identification skills through sight and sound.
