Coach trip to Fingringhoe Wick, Essex Wildlife Trust Nature Reserve

Location: Coach departs 7.30am promptly from Humberstone Gate, Leicester (opposite Sainsbury's) LE1 3PJ and arrives back in Leicester at approximately 7.00pm.

Fingringhoe Wick is Essex Wildlife Trust's first nature reserve and visitor centre, set in a spectacular and peaceful position overlooking the Colne Estuary. There is a wide range of habitats, including grassland, heathland and ponds.

We are hoping for good numbers of nightingales and other migrants.

Countryside Open Day, Burbage Common, Hinckley

Location: Burbage Common, Leicester Road, Hinckley

The Leicester Local Group have been supporting the Countryside Open Day organised by Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council since it began in 1995 and this year marks the event's 25th anniversary.

Our stall will have RSPB branded goods, bird food and feeders, as well as lots of information. Do come and see us and learn more about the work of the RSPB and how you can support us. We will of course be fundraising and recruiting and children can have a go at making a dragonfly to take away with them.

There is always plenty to do at this event, and there are demonstrations of countryside crafts and beekeeping, as well as lots of other activities in and around the central arena, including maypole dancing, dog training, pond dipping and morris dancing.

AGM and Social Evening to Celebrate our 50th Anniversary

Leicester Local Group's Annual General Meeting takes place prior to the May indoor meeting, and will start at 7.15 pm on Friday 17 May 2019. The meeting is brief and we aim to finish by about 7.30 pm as usual. The AGM gives an opportunity for the Group's Leader and Treasurer to report on the previous year's activities and to present details of funds raised and money spent. The Group's Committee and Auditor are also elected at this time.

To mark the start of our 50th anniversary year our AGM will be followed by a social evening with a display of some of the Group's activities and highlights since its inception. A light buffet will be available, so please book to assist us with catering. Please contact the Group Leader Graham Heninghem.

We will be visiting Gilfach Farm, a Radnorshire Wildlife Trust reserve in mid-Wales, where they have 55 regular breeding species, including common sandpiper, flycatchers, redstart, wood warbler and dipper.
