Redshank perched on post

Birds Round Up - January 2007

A good start for those of us completing a 'local patch' year list:

At Chasewater there have been two Great Northern Divers, a female Snow Bunting (on the south beach and grassy bank) and a rather elusive male Smew. Blithfield reservoir (SK 0523) offers up to 40 Goosander and Pintail as attractions. Two Whooper Swans at Whitemoor Haye (SK 1813) have been spotted north of Sittles Farm, Corn Bunting heard in song from the bush on the north east corner of the 'square' plus Yellowhammers, Reed Buntings, Meadow Pipits, Skylarks. Up to 20 Redshank have been at Croxall nature reserve (SK1914) and flocks of 1000 Lapwing and 200 Golden Plover have been seen at Catholme.

Haweswater reserve with snow

Happy New Year!

Lichfield & District Local Group look forward to a new year of birdwatching and wish all website visitors an even better year list in 2007!

Don't forget that the RSPB is collecting used postage stamps for its 'Save the Albatross' campaign. You can pass on your stamps either by post (RSPB stamps, PO Box 6198, Leighton Buzzard, Beds LU7 9XT - please don't include any other correspondence), by visiting a reserve (what a good excuse to get out!) or, easiest of all BRING THEM TO THE JANUARY MEETING AND WE'LL SEND THEM FOR YOU!
