Before I had started to record my sightings for the Big Garden birdwatch on 27 January a juvenile blackcap was seen on the fat balls in the back garden! This bird is now coming every day to the fat balls!

A barn owl was seen this evening at about 19.10 flying low over Adlington Road (A5102) just before the junction with the B5358 on the Wilmslow side of the Junction. It was flying towards Bollington.

On my run this morning around Redesmere, I came across a little egret hunched in a field opposite the hamlet of Fanshawe. The weather was awful. A blizzard of sleet and 1°C. Rather different from the last one I saw which was in Africa.

Two Little Egrets perched in tree above the river between Macclesfield and Prestbury at about 12.30pm - first meadow downstream of bird feeding station, just before the boundary to the next meadow. Grey herons sometimes perch in the same tree.

Birds of note: buzzard being mobbed by eight+ carrion crows, 30+Coot, 250+ blackheaded gull, grey heron, moorhen, Canada geese flying in, usual mallard, 20+ redwing in trees nearby, 10+ male and female tufted duck.

The Little Owl still roosting in the tree on farmland. on Gawsworth Road, Macclesfield on the left after the houses but before the turn left into Penningtons Lane. I reported the location of this bird to the BTO gentleman at the RSPB Meeting on Tuesday night!
