December 2018 Wildlife Sightings

Seen on Macclesfield Canal between Bullocks Lane and London Road bridges at 3pm 28 December, 2 goosander, one male, one female.

25 December - afternoon at Redesmere, Siddington.
I sighted a great white egret.
It had been sighted by others on 24th., but I wasn't fortunate enough to see it.

21 December - Poynton
We have had a male blackcap visiting our garden feeder for the last two weeks
today there were two males. Also today we had our first siskin. It's been a good day today in addition there has been a small flock of redpoll in the garden feeding on the silver birch seeds.

19 December - Poynton Pool
Two brambling, one kingfisher, three great crested grebe, two little grebe.
Lots of wildfowl seen - as well as usual there were five shoveler (two males, three females, four gadwall,
12 wigeon, five goosander (two male. three female) one female pochard, one greylag.

17 December - Rudyard Lake.
Around 40 brambling present along with two redshank, 24 wigeon and 70 teal.

17 December, midday Swan's Pool.

Communal grounds bordered by Paradise Street, Bridge Street, Union Street and Crossall Street in Macclesfield, near B&Q.
Birds finally feeding on the large crop of rowan berries present this year - redwing, mistle thrush, blackbird, woodpigeon. (NO fieldfare or waxwing sighted to date)

Large numbers of pied wagtails, maybe 50, and one grey, feeding on the filter beds and fluttering over the rotating water arm spray.

Rudyard Lake - short walk with Macclesfield U3A Group from car park at north end of lake (Grid reference SJ 939 611)
24 species seen including: willow tit (3), coal tit, nuthatch, jay, redwing, buzzard, teal, lapwing, redshank, great crested grebe.

Two ring necked parakeets, 10 shoveler, eight wigeon, three goosander, three gadwall

13 December - Middlewood Way in Bollington this afternoon:
Four Sseparate flocks of redwing, each 6 - 10 birds plus sparrowhawk in flight,
Bridge 22 on canal:
Two nuthatch and a treecreeper on the same tree. Male goosander on canal, approximately 10 long-tailed tits.
Long Lane: Another treecreeper and another flock of long tailed tits plus flock of about 20 brambling.

Three redshank, one blue morph snow goose with the large flock of Canada geese and three willow tit.

Two little egret. Prior to that, my last previous record was back in March.

Two great white egret + one little egret all together in the field off Redesmere lane.
No camera, it was chucking it down.
