Wildlife Sightings, April, May, June and July 2020 - Covid 19 update

During the Covid-19 pandemic restrictions between April and July the normal wildlife sightings section of our website was suspended. However, we are now reinstating these records from 1st August, but please ensure that social distancing and all of the government's Covid-19 restrictions are complied with whilst you are out wildlife watching.

Please everybody stay safe and healthy.

Clear photos will be welcomed.

During the period of lockdown we did receive some very interesting sightings as follows:
- Birds of prey such as Red Kites, Peregrine Falcons and Hobbies
- Many reports of swifts to 'Swifts Over Macclesfield'
- A pair of Mandarin Ducks on the River Bollin
- Redstarts and a Cuckoo at Higher Sutton
- Tawny Owl near Buxton Old Road
- Grasshopper Warblers in a garden near Hurdsfield Church
- Common Terns at Eton Hall Flash
- Great White Egret at Rudyard
- A pair of Yellow Wagtails with young
- Reports of Cuckoos at Hanging Stone and Hen Cloud (24 April), others in the Gradbach/Roaches area

21 June Stock Dove in Prestbury garden.

15 June Oystercatcher flying over Tytherington garden.

9 June Early morning sighting in Congleton garden. Two great spotted woodpeckers searching for insects on bark of the pear tree. It was a mother and juvenile. They stayed for quite a while feeding on the ground and feeders before flying away. Later sighting a beautiful male bullfinch on feeder.

4 June Pair of grasshopper warblers in a garden to the east of Macclesfield.

18 May
We have now received 47 reports of swifts in Macclesfield and surrounding areas. Please report any sightings to swifts@macclesfieldrspb.org.uk to include location, number of birds and whether they were flying high up, low down in screaming parties or entering nest sites either a tradition hole or a nest box.

Tawny Owls (probably 3) and a fox heard from Tytherington back garden at 11pm

Swallows are arriving - South west of Rainow and Kerridge
