The highlights of a morning walk on the Dane Valley way above Wincle were two curlew flying over the pastures and the sound of a cuckoo calling!

Golden plover, curlew, skylark, lapwing, linnet, reed bunting, wheatear, meadow pipit, swallow, pied wagtail, brown hare.
Danes Moss(Gawsworth side) - red kite.

14 May - Prestbury sewage works area
swift - 2, swallow - 2, chiffchaff - 2, blackcap - 4 male + 1 female, grey wagtail - juvenile, mandarin duck (pair) with 4 plus young plus single drake, kingfisher - male.

Danebower - male ring ouzel, curlew, red grouse, raven and stonechat.

I've been looking at your site and I would like to report the sighting of 3 swifts in Barracks Square Macclesfield on 12th May. They hung around for an hour or so, disappeared and have not come back. We normally have good numbers, and have installed 2 next boxes. The latest they have ever arrived is 15th of May. Getting worried.

12 May, I saw six species of birds of prey between Macclesfield and Jodrell Bank.
Hobby, peregrine, sparrowhawk, kestrel, buzzard, barn owl.

Saturday 12 May (7.00am to 9.30am) Danebower Sparbent Layby (53.219704 - 1.999490). From Sparbent Layby to Clough House Farm via Cumberland Brook Footpath
Barn swallow, lapwing, meadow pipit, carrion crow, wheatear, chaffinch, red grouse, curlew (heard).
On arrival there were six golden plover in the adjacent field.

09 May - Up in eastern hills Cheshire around Danebower , Cut-off thorn Hill , Wildboarclough area this morning.
14 red grouse, seven wheatear, one whinchat, three pied flycatchers, three ring ouzel,, two redstart, one dipper, several red grouse.

Monday 7 May 2018 (7.00 am to 9.30 am) - Danes Moss Cheshire Wildlife Trust Reserve
(Part of the Breeding Bird Survey being carried out at the reserve)
33 species of birds seen and/or heard - in particular:
blackcap, chiffchaff, garden warbler, great spotted woodpecker (H), jay, lapwing, oystercatcher, reed bunting, swallow, treecreeper, whitethroat, willow warbler.
Butterflies seen:
orange tip, brimstone, green-veined white, speckled wood.

On Saturday afternoon (5th May) I heard a cuckoo calling at Three Shires Head. Very clear, for quite a long time. Couldn't see it, of course!
Also saw a male reed bunting when walking from there in the direction of Danebower Quarry. Saw probable meadow pippit(!) and heard curlews and lapwings heading up towards Cat & Fiddle.

18 people attended and 32 species were seen and/or heard (H) in particular:
coal tit, common redstart, common sandpiper (H), cuckoo, curlew (H), dipper, great spotted woodpecker (H), grey wagtail, jay, pied flycatcher, red grouse (H), treecreeper, tree pipit and willow warbler.
