The Purple Sandpiper is a passage migrant and winter visitor to wave-washed seaweed-covered rocky coasts. It can be very tame and is often in the company of Turnstone.Few waders are so restricted by habitat as this species, which is a bird of the surf edge, groynes, piers, harbour walls and stony beaches.
