Photo of the month - kestrel chicks
Four young kestrels at 2-3 days old and one, as yet, unhatched egg. This is one of two kestrel nests currently in the nest boxes at Stanwick Lakes. They are using a new nest box that was put up just last November, but they are the second family to use it. Tawny owls used the nest box between early February and early April to successfully raise two owlets. The kestrels took the nest box over with a month of the tawny owls vacating it.
