2019 - walks and talks

Our first bird watching walk of 2019 is on Monday, 7 January 2019, when we will be visiting the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust reserve at Blashford Lakes.  Meet  in the main car park outside the Tern Hide at 10.00 am and bring a packed lunch with you as we are planing to stay until about 3.00 pm, or you may wish to stay a bit later to watch the gull roost developing.  I have been warned that there may be road resurfacing on some routes near Blashford, so check on www.roadworks.org.

Recent sightings at Blashford have included bittern, great white egret, red kite, peregrine, green sandpiper, black-necked grebe and Caspian gull. Also, a white-tailed eagle has been hanging around the near-by Backley Plain for the last few weeks.

Our first indoor meeting of the year will be on Wednesday, 9 January 2019, when Chris Chapleo, chair of the Christchurch Harbour Ornithological Group, will be talking about the wildlife of that area.  Indoor meetings are always at 7.30 pm of the second Wednesday of the moth and entry is £3 for local group members and £5 for all others (includes refreshments at the interval).
