The Wildlife of Spain - Andy Tucker

Location: St Philip & St James Church Hall
Kings Road

Hants
Postcode: GU51 3AR (Google map)

Andy's first visit to the group was back in September 2018 when he presented 'Andes to Amazon - The Wildlife of Peru'. An evening of considerable interest with super photography. This time he will take us on a breath-taking tour of the spectacular Spanish mountains and wilderness. Beginning with the ferry crossing the rich waters of the Bay of Biscay, we go on to visit the Cantabrian mountains, Pyrenees, Spanish steppes, wetlands and other wonderful habitats and destinations in this wildlife-rich country. With whales, dolphins, eagles, bustards, cranes, wallcreepers, Iberian wolf, wildcats, orchids, butterflies, stunning landscapes, blue skies and not forgetting blue cheese and vineyards, try not to miss it!

We will also touch on conservation, looking at the current status of the Iberian lynx, and discussing how you can see this iconic species in the wild!

Wild-Isle - The Wildlife of Wight - Dave Fairlamb

Location: St Philip & St James' Church Hall
King's Road
Fleet
Hants
Postcode: GU51 3AR (Google map)

Having recently moved to the Isle of Wight, Dave's talk on this occasion will take us from the spectacular coastline to the chalk downs, the wetlands and woodlands, showing the Isle of Wight's rich wildlife habitats. With one of the populations of red squirrels in southern England, home to the rare Glanville fritillary butterfly and scarlet sea anemone, it is quite unique.

It can be a bird-watcher's paradise, with thousands of wintering wildfowl and waders. Nightingales, nightjars and bitterns breed and the island is a hotspot during spring and autumn migration with regular rarities. With seabirds and cetaceans in the surrounding seas, it is truly a Wild-Isle

Dave is coming all the way from the island to present this talk, so please make a note in your diaries to come along and support him.
