Guided Walk: Wanstead Flats &/or Park

Location: Wanstead Flats (near E11 3NW)
Latitude/longitude: 51.559185,0.018896 (Google map)

We return to this large green expanse where we will be lead by local expert Tim Harris. We'll be on the look out for some of our spring migrants that may be passing through such as Wheatear with a chance of something perhaps less common turning up, Redstart and Ring Ouzel amongst others have been known to visit this site at this time of year!

Skylark will be in full song as we also checkout the lakes and surrounding woodland for some of our other resident birds.

Last year Tim set us a target of seeing 50 different bird species which we managed to achieve, can we beat that total this year?

We'll be starting at the earlier time of 8.30am to make the most of this walk.

Please contact us to provide your details so we can tell you of any late changes (and to make sure we do not have too many people on the walk).

For all outings we advise strong waterproof footwear and warm waterproof clothing plus, of course, binoculars.

Time: 8.30 am

Price: £2.00 for RSPB & WREN members; £3.00 for non-members

Location: Meet at Gunpowder Park car park, parking charges apply. A half-day trip.
Latitude/longitude: 51.676000,0.002060 (Google map)

We want to promote links with other local nature groups who organise their own independent events. This walk is led byMike Dent of Buteo Wildlife for the East London Birders Forum (ELBF).

"Many of the spring migrants should be in so we'll test our knowledge of warbler song whilst watching hirundines and looking for Wheatears and Whinchats. Common Terns may be joined by their cousins, Arctic Terns moving up the valley. The first butterflies such as Brimstones and Orange Tips should be on the wing if the weather is suitable."

Please contact the leader to book for each walk or trip at least 2 days in advance unless stated otherwise (contact details are needed in case of any late changes). If no-one has booked, the leader may not be at the meeting point.
If you require further information about these walks, please contact Dave at david.hutley@ntlworld.com or Mike at mike.elbf@gmail.com

Guided Walk: Connaught Water & Chingford Plain - followed by breakfast

Location: Chingford, E4
Latitude/longitude: 51.637189,0.028577 (Google map)

May 5th is International Dawn Chorus Day - but dawn is at 04:47 which is probably too early for most! So we are planning a slightly later event around these local Epping Forest areas with Richard Nelson as our leader.

Come and join us and help celebrate 50 years of RSPB Local Groups starting with an early morning stroll over the 'plains' to spot some of our summer visitors such as Whitethroat and other warbler species, as well as perhaps a raptor or two.

Then on to Connaught Water to check out the different species of wildfowl here before we return to the start and enjoy some breakfast at the Butlers Retreat together.
We'll be starting bright and early at 6.30am. More details / cost for this walk will be announced nearer the date.

Please contact us to provide your details so we can tell you of any late changes (and to make sure we do not have too many people on the walk).

For all outings we advise strong waterproof footwear and warm waterproof clothing plus, of course, binoculars.

Time: 6.30 am

Price: To be confirmed - hope to include breakfast!
