Redbridge Birds 2011 - Daniel E-H's summary

Redbridge Birds 2011 - Daniel E-H's summary

There was a good turn out for Daniel's third talk about Redbridge birds. Daniel handed out two sheets of photos of some of the birds that had featured last year.

He recalled some of the highlights - the breeding successes and failures of more easily seen birds like the Grey Herons (which returned for a second year to Valentine Park, a bird which had been absent since the 1800s!), Great Crested Grebes (they tried very hard) and the Egyptian Geese. Daniel observed that one pair of Egyptian Geese only seemed to have one gosling left whereas another pair had about a dozen - when he saw them later they appeared to have split the goslings evenly between the two pairs!

Redbridge was also lucky to have some unusual visitors including Ring Ouzel, Wood Sandpiper and not forgetting last winter's invasion of Waxwings.

We were sorry to hear that Daniel has had to curtail his birding activities due to his health and other priorities. We will miss his bird walks around the local birding 'hotspots' and hope he may be able to resume his birding interests one day in the future.

If you click on the 'Download file' link, then you will see the striking poster that David (our Publicity officer) produced to advertise this talk.
