Redshanks, Rays and Roosevelt

Redshanks, Rays and Roosevelt

Rolf Williams works for the RSPB, notably at the splendid reserves in the North Kent Marshes. Cliffe Pools, Elmley Marshes and Northward Hill are well worth visiting, as many of you will know.

They are easily accessible from East London and are great venues for catching up with some exciting birds.

Rolf gave us a bird's eye view of the area with amazing photos he took as a passenger in a microlight aircraft. He showed how important the lower Thames Estuary is for wildlife.

We might think of it as a significant drive from Rainham Marshes to the North Kent Marshes but for a bird on the wing, it's only minutes and we need to ensure that our reserves are not isolated pockets of habitat but a linked environment to support our wildlife.
