***CHANGE of SPEAKER*** 'Importance of the Patch'

***CHANGE of SPEAKER*** 'Importance of the Patch'

*** Change of speaker ***

Unfortunately we belatedly discovered that Mike Dilger was away filming so was no longer available to give his talk on 'Twelve British Birds' that we had been expecting to bring to you. We are sorry for any disappointment that this caused.

We made new arrangements and Nick Croft kindly agreed to step in with a talk on 'Importance of the Patch'.

Wanstead Flats has an amazing list of birds that have been seen there over the years and this is mainly due to the dedicated individuals who bird this patch most days of the year!

Nick not only finds unusual birds on the patch but also takes the time to share his findings with others. Those who follow the Twitter account 'WansteadBirding' will know when an unusual bird turns up and may even get to see it before it goes on its way, especially if Nick is around to give a helping hand [Editor's note: Thanks for the Yellow-browed Warbler, Nick!].

Pictured is a Redstart - a regular visitor to Wanstead Flats on migration. One of the topics that Nick raised was the impact of clearance of areas on the Flats and whether visitors such as the Redstart will be affected by these recent changes to the Flats?
