SE Herts, Rye Meads NR - Celebrating 50 Years

The RSPB is this year celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the formation in 1969 of the first Local members Groups. A number of events are planned around the country from September through to April 2020 to celebrate the occasion.

The South East Herts Members Group is organising a celebration fun day event on Sunday September 29th between 10am and 4.00pm at the RSPB Rye Meads Reserve - a delightful wetland reserve at Rye Road, Hoddesdon, SG12 8JS.

4 Local Groups are taking part:
South East Hertfordshire, North East & North West London and Potters Bar and Barnet.
Bird race for children & adults (bring binoculars if you have them)
Guides in hides
Children's quiz
50th anniversary celebration quiz
Bird call game; pond dipping
Raffle, pin badges, prizes
Refreshments and cake stall
Displays, memorabilia & more
Display & demonstration by Wildlife Artist Steve Kershaw

Looking for the Goshawk

In the UK, it is easier to find a stuffed goshawk in a museum than to get to see one in the flesh and feathers. Author and conservationist Conor Mark Jameson has travelled to many places to do better, and he came to tell us how his book, Looking for the Goshawk, came about.

We meet on the second Tuesday of most months at 8pm
Our nature talks cost: £4.00 for RSPB & Wren members, £4.50 for non-members, Free to schoolchildren

St Mary's Church is a short distance from the junction with Chelmsford Road. After 6.30 pm, parking is free and legal in the car park beside the Library opposite the church and also on bits of the High Road outside.
Derby Road car park, a few minutes walk to the north, is free from 5.30 pm onwards.

It is about a 15 minute walk from South Woodford tube station (on Central line).
Buses 179 and W13 stop nearby.
