Far Ings is situated on the south bank of the Humber Estuary where the pits and reedbeds are a legacy of the cement industry. Managed by the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust it is a stronghold for the bittern. Other reedbed species are found here along with waders, geese and much more.

A new speaker, Ashley Grove, visiting us for the first time to give a talk entitled 'Shetland to Scilly, Birds of the British Isles.' Over 130 species make an appearance during the presentation which is rounded off by a montage of more images to music.

Ashley runs the Experience Nature Wildlife Watching and Photography Holidays company with his partner. He has volunteered for the RSPB since 2006 and is an accomplished photographer.

Science in the Park at Wollaton Hall

This year is the 11th annual Science in the Park at Wollaton Hall. To quote the British Science Association - "A free event for all the family with activities, trails, talks and more. Coach trip to Padley Gorge

Our annual woodland hunt! Target species on this day will be wood warbler, redstart and pied flycatcher, with a full supporting cast. We will begin at the top of the gorge and check the moors for ring ouzel and anything else, then walk down the paths looking for our other targets. At the bottom we check out the river for dippers and mandarins among others.

Coach trip to Wicken Fen NNR

This National Trust reserve is a window into a lost landscape, a remnant of undrained fenland that once covered most of East Anglia. It holds 9,000 species including rare birds, plants including orchids, butterflies, dragonflies and other insects. Birds include bitterns, bearded tits, hobbies, cuckoos and a good selection of warblers. Not a place we visit often but one not to be missed. Our visit will coincide with their summer boat trips so if you feel up to it you can book a place and set sail!
