A real coup this month. Peter Holden MBE will give a talk entitled "Birds: Their Hidden World". This now has over 168,000 members, making it the largest wildlife club for children in the world. He was also instrumental in developing and promoting the Big Garden Birdwatch in 1979. He has written nine books including the acclaimed RSPB Handbook of British Birds and the recently published RSPB Handbook of Garden Wildlife. Coach trip to Bolton Abbey

Location: Join the coach on Mount Street in the centre of Nottingham.
Postcode: NG1 6HG (Google map)

We've not gone mad, this reserve is near Skipton, not Bolton! This is our annual foray onto oak woodland looking for wood warblers, redstarts and flycatchers. It also has a river for dippers, goosanders and common sandpipers and is surrounded by moorland. Looking into the walks around the area I was a little shaken to find one called the Valley of Desolation. Don't let that put you off, it's a lovely place.

Along the five miles of trails we hope to find woodpeckers, spotted flycatchers and birds of prey. On previous visits we have had a good selection of species and it also has a nationally important collection of natterjack toads.
