City Nature Challenge 2021

Between 30 April and 3 May the City of Nottingham will be taking part in the international competition, City Nature Challenge 2021.

We will be competing with over 300 cities from across the world to record as much wildlife as possible. This includes 12 urban areas within the UK. The Nottinghamshire Wildlife City Local Group is leading the City Nature Challenge 2021 for Nottingham.

The challenge takes place in 2 parts:

30 April to 3 May - a variety of public events will be held as well as encouraging individual activities to record wildlife from lichens to larks and from fungi to foxgloves.

3 May to 10 May - organising and verifying the wildlife sightings to ensure that they are included in our tally!

In 2020 Nottingham participants recorded 651 species - can we do better this year? During the City Nature Challenge we will be using iNaturalist, a free app available for Android and Apple devices. You can also use the iNaturalist website where you will find details of all the City Nature Challenge events taking place across the world and lots of help and advice on using the app and the website. Photos taken on a camera and observations can be added to the website without having to use the app. Our project is the 'Nottingham City Nature Challenge 2021'

Please 'Join' the project so you will receive updates during the event. We suggest downloading the iNaturalist App now or signing up on the website and practice recording wildlife around you. That way you will be ready to go on 30 April 2021.
Your help in recording will inform our understanding of Nottingham City's wildlife.
