Weekend walk at Pagham Harbour. THIS WALK HAS BEEN POSTPONED

Meet at the VisitorCentre on the B2145 Selsey road.
68 miles from Weybridge via A3and A27. Turn right at Chichester and follow A286, B2201,
towards Selsey.

Pagham is a well-established RSPB reserve with a path through the marshlands to the harbour and seashore.
Depending on conditions, we will probably walk to the seashore and back, a return distance of about four miles.
There is a new hide close to the Visitor Centre looking over the busy Ferry Pond.

Facilities on site beyond the car park.

This walk will be led by Legh Langston.

The walk will take place under the Covid-19 restrictions applying at the time.

Conservation of the Critically Endangered Sociable Lapwing - Dr Rob Sheldon

Location: This is a Zoom meeting hosted. by the Richmond and Twickenham RSPB Local Group.

NW Surrey Group members will receive an invitation as if it was our own Zoom meeting.

We are invited as guests to this Richmond and Twickenham Group Zoom meeting.

This talk will provide a fascinating insight into the international research and conservation efforts to save this wonderful but critically endangered bird that migrates from its breeding grounds in central Asia to the wintering areas of the Middle East, north-east Africa, Pakistan and India.

As well as outlining the scope of this work Rob will discuss its implications for other species. Rob Sheldon, now a freelance consultant, has worked in nature conservation for 20 years, including 12 years with the RSPB. Since 2013, he has been the Chairman of the Ornithological Society of the Middle East, The Caucasus and Central Asia (OSME). Most recently he has worked for the Zoological Society of London as the Director of the King Khalid Wildlife Research Centre in Saudi Arabia.

Mid-week walk at Farlington Marshes. THIS WALK HAS BEEN POSTPONED

No facilities, so you may wish to stop at the Queen Elizabeth Country Park en route.

This is our easiest to reach coastal site and offers something different from our usual inland walks.

Blashford Lakes - Hants and IoW Wildlife Trust Reserve.
79 miles from Weybridge via M3 and A31. Turn right at Ringwood, follow A338 towards Salisbury.
Turn right after 1.7 miles into Ellingham Drove and use car park on left.
Meet at the Tern Hide just beyond the car park.
Facilities in the Visitor's Centre.

Weekend Walk at Oare Marshes. THIS WALK HAS BEEN POSTPONED

Oare Marshes are in North Kent and lie alongside the River Swale.
75 miles from Weybridge via M25/M20/A249 and M2 to Faversham.
Turn left then right in the village of Ospinge, towards Oare.

Of international importance for wetland birds, this is one of the few remaining areas of grazing marshland in Kent and overlooks the Thames Estuary towards the Isle of Sheppey. There is a circular walk.

No facilities on the reserve but Sainsbury's is nearby and there are pubs in the village.

The leader is Legh Langston.
