Oare Marshes

Of international importance for wetland birds, this is one of the few remaining areas of grazing marshland in Kent and overlooks the Thames Estuary towards the Isle of Sheppey.
The circular walk around the reserve is approximately 3.4 miles.
No facilities on the reserve but there are pubs in Oare Village and at Sainsburys.
75 miles from Weybridge via M25/M20/A249 and M2 to Faversham. Turn left then right in the village of Ospinge towards Oare.

Dick Focks Common

Location: Meet in front of the gate to the common on the right of Crocknorth Road heading south from East Horsley at TQ 101509. No facilities but pubs nearby in East Horsley.
Please car share if possible as car parking is limited.

A two mile walk and a new area to explore for a midweek walk. We shall be looking for winter finches.
Probably wet underfoot so sensible shoes/boots required.

A well established RSPB reserve with a path through the marshlands to the harbour and seashore. A four mile return walk. There is a new hide close to the visitor's centre looking over the busy Ferry Pond.

Moor Green Lakes

This restored gravel extraction site near Sandhurst has several lakes. Goosanders should also be present.
About 2.5 miles walk. No facilities but pubs nearby in Sandhurst.

Blashford Lakes

Location: 79 miles from Weybridge via M3 and A31. Turn right at Ringwood, follow A338 towards Salisbury. Turn right after 1.7 miles into Ellingham Drove. Use the car park on the left opposite the main entrance track and meet in the adjacent Tern Hide.

This is an area of flooded former gravel pits and woodland in the Avon Valley. We can expect to see a wide variety of overwintering wildfowl as well as many woodland birds.
Toilets in the Visitor's Centre but no catering (at the time of writing).

Farlington Marshes

This is our easiest to reach coastal site and offers something different from our usual inland walks. We will be looking for winter visitors such as geese, waders and, with luck, short-eared owls. 2.5 miles walk.
No facilities, so you may wish to stop at the Queen Elizabeth country park en route.

Rainham Marshes

Location: 50 miles from Weybridge via M25 turn left after the bridge towards Purfleet. Meet in the reserve car park.

This RSPB reserve on the north bank of the Thames is close to the Dartford Crossing. Developed from former firing ranges, it only opened 2000. Containing reed beds and marshlands, it offers a wide variety of wildfowl and marshland birds such as Cetti's warbler and possibly bearded tit.
Note that there is currently a charge of £2.50 each way for the Dart Crossing, payable online or by phone by midnight the next day.

A new site for us in the New Forest close to Lyndhurst. On a recent visit, birds seen included hawfinch, tree pipit, goshawk, firecrest and woodlark.
More details of the exact location will be supplied nearer the time as will the possibility of visiting another New Forest site such as Beaulieu Road during the afternoon.
No facilities on site but available at Service Area on M27 and in Lyndhurst.

Pulborough Brooks

A little further away than our normal trips, this RSPB reserve offers a variety of habitats and a good selection of summer visitors, including warblers and nightingales.

There is a good chance of seeing hobby here if the weather is good, as well as woodlark, cuckoo, common redstart and woodpeckers. Dragonflies, damselflies and basking common lizards should also be seen.
