Mid-week Walk at Farlington Marshes 2.8 MILES

Location: Farlington Marshes is immediately next to the A27 as you join it from the A3 heading west. Take the Portsmouth exit but turn sharp left as you reach the traffic lights on the roundabout, turning back parallel with the slip road. There is limited parking by the reserve entrance at the far end of this road, otherwise park further back and meet by the reserve entrance. No facilities on the reserve, so you may wish to stop at the Queen Elizabeth Country Park just south of Petersfield on the A3 en route.

As our planned walk at Pulborough Brooks has had to be cancelled due to their double-booking we are going to Farlington Marshes instead. With spring migration in full swing we are hopeful of seeing wheatears, warblers and waders as they head North to breed. It is also a regular site for migrating ospreys, so we could hit lucky.

Otmoor : A Wetland Rediscovered by David Wilding.

Location: This talk will take place using Zoom. Local group members will receive an invitation by email.

David is the site manager of RSPB Otmoor and will show us how agricultural land has been transformed into a haven for wildlife.

WEEKEND WALK - KEYHAVEN & PENNINGTON MARSHES, 3 MILES

Location: To comply with the Covid restrictions this walk will split into two groups of six, a total of 12 participants including the leaders. They will start their walks at opposite ends of the reserve.

Group One will meet in the car park by the Gun Inn in Keyhaven at SO41 0TP
Group Two will meet in the car park at the end of Lower Pennington Lane at SO41 8AJ
You will be allocated to a group when booking.

Both groups will start their walks at 09:00, rather than 10;00 as previously advised.

DAWN CHORUS - WITLEY COMMON

Location: This walk at Witley Common will start promptly at 4am from the Webb Road car park just off the A286 Haslemere Road just to the south west of Milford. Grid Ref. SU93402 40870.

There is a good chance of seeing hobby as well as Dartford warbler, woodlark, cuckoo, common redstart and woodpeckers. Dragonflies, damselflies and basking common lizards should also be seen.

52 Shades of Green. Britain's best Bird watching Weekends by James Lowen.

An Osprey in a Shopping Bag: the Return of a Raptor - Alasdair McKee

Alasdair McKee of the RSPB and Cumbria Wildlife Trust works closely with ospreys in South Cumbria. He will be talking about how this most charismatic bird of prey has returned from extinction in England in the last twenty years. This entertaining illustrated talk will introduce you to these remarkable birds and tell the story of a remarkable conservation comeback in Cumbria and beyond.
