Saturday, 3 November 2018

Between 1st October 2017 & 30th September 2018 the group had a total of 52 walks, a further 2 walks were cancelled because of severe weather.

The total attendance for these walks was 500 and between us we saw 161 different bird species. The highest attendance on a walk was 19 at Hayling Oyster Beds and again at Blashford Lakes near Ringwood. The most species seen on a walk was 62 at Keyhaven in April, the least was 18 at Locksash in July.

The lowest attendance was 2 keen (mad) members who turned up at Cobnor in March for the walk that was cancelled due to heavy snow. The lowest number for a walk that actually went ahead was 4 at Apuldram during Storm Brian in October.

Some of the less common birds seen were: Grey Phalarope, Ring Necked Parakeet, Green Winged Teal, Great White Egret, 12 Cattle Egrets together at Pagham, Goshawk & Merlin.

Bullfinches were seen on 15 walks, Yellowhammers on 13, Sparrowhawks on 10 & Ravens on 6.

Some birds that we normally see but sadly didn't see this time were: Turtle Dove, Lesser Spotted Woodpecker, Little Owl, Crossbill, Brambling, Wood Warbler & Pied Flycatcher.
