Midweek Walk - Burbage

male stonechat perched on bramble

Wednesday, 29 April 2015

There was an unseasonably cold wind blowing across Burbage Moor and birds were few and far between. An area of felled conifer woodland was the most productive and here we saw Siskin, Stonechat, Chaffinch, Goldfinch, Reed Bunting and Willow Warbler.

The bird we all wanted to see was the Ring Ouzel but, though we saw some in the distance, we struggled to get good views. We also saw Kestrels and Red Grouse but the most abundant bird was the Meadow Pipit.
