Midweek Walk - Treeton Dyke

Male goldeneye

Wednesday, 9 December 2015

We had a bright sunny start for our last walk of 2015 and, in no time at all, were putting common birds like Great Tit, Chaffinch, Robin and House Sparrow on our list.

Once at the water's edge, our list increased with Mallard, Coot, Mute Swan and Black-headed Gull. When we looked a little closer, we discovered two stunning ducks - a drake Goldeneye and a female Goosander.

In the hedgerows, were small flocks of Redwing and Goldfinch and we had great views of Bullfinch. Overhead we saw a magnificent skein of Pink-footed Geese, several Cormorants and a Sparrowhawk harassing a Common Buzzard.

It was a terrific winter bird walk.
