Midweek Walk - Rother Valley Country Park

Goosander on water

Wednesday, 8 February 2017

We set off on a cold, cloudy morning and experienced very muddy conditions underfoot. However, we soon started to see birds and our spirits were lifted by Bullfinch, Song Thrush and Siskin.

On the lakes were a good variety of waterfowl including eight species of duck: Mallard, Tufted Duck, Pochard, Goldeneye, Goosander, Gadwall, Teal and Wigeon.

We went on to have good views of a Great Spotted Woodpecker, Goldfinch and Long-tailed Tit and, on our return across a very boggy floodplain, we saw Mistle Thrush, Redwing and Pied Wagtail.

Rother Valley Country Park proved an excellent choice for a February walk!
