Midweek Walk - Rivelin Valley

Nuthatch on branch

Wednesday, 10 October 2018

We enjoyed a very pleasant stroll along the Rivelin Valley under cloudless skies. Birdwatching was made more difficult because most of the trees were still well-covered in dense foliage.

The walk started well with a sighting of a Raven "accompanied" by Jackdaws flying high over Rails Road car park - where we also saw Chaffinch, Coal Tit, Mallard, Moorhen and Robin around the bird feeding station.
Along the Rivelin Nature Trail we were soon treated to Dipper and Grey Wagtail as well as good views of Nuthatch and Treecreeper.

Several species of fungi were seen as well as some late flowering plants including Bindweed and Herb-Robert.

All agreed that this walk was a great way to spend time on a beautifully sunny and warm autumnal day.
