Weekend Walk - Wadsley Common

Magpie in snowy clearing

Saturday, 26 October 2019

Leaders: Anne & John Robinson

The Met Office had issued a yellow weather warning for heavy rain, and it had rained constantly for the last 24 hours and didn't look like stopping. So, we just zipped up our cagoules and focused our binoculars on a very wet Wadsley Common.

The autumn colours were stunning, but we struggled to see any birds at all apart from bedraggled great tits and blue tits on the feeders in the top car park, and jays stashing away acorns for the winter. They seemed oblivious to the wet conditions! Apart from these few, it was a complete washout!
