Field Trip to Mawddach Valley

Moorland landscape, Wales

Sunday, 12 May 2013

This reserve has a reputation for weird and wonderful plants, flowers, butterflies and birds. This was a new venture for the Shropshire group and sadly the weather forecast turned out to be so accurate. By 10.00 am the rain started and by noon had intensified so much that the group decided to head back to the cars. Even so we had been delighted by the large number of Wood Warblers on the site and had also seen Pied Flycatcher and had a cuckoo calling.
After a lunch taken huddled in the cars two decisions were made. Firstly the reserve had so intrigued us that we vowed to return next year with the hope of better weather to enable us to explore in more detail. Secondly we decided to head back towards Shrewsbury and finish the day at Venus Pool. As always VP provided it's normal array of ducks, geese, water birds, gulls and song birds to make up for a wet and muddy visit.
