Marsh Harrier (female), close up of head

Morning Walk at Middleton Lakes

After last season when nearly all our walks were hit by bad weather, it was encouraging that our first walk of the new season was in glorious sunshine.
Our venue was the fantastic new RSPB Reserve at Middleton Lakes near Tamworth. Over 30 supporters turned up and besides the sun were treated to good views of little egrets, buzzards, kestrel, hobby and best of all a marsh harrier which is an uncommon bird in the area.
For many, this was their first visit to this site, but for those, who had been before, the changes made to the site were amazing.

Goldfinch on seed feeder

collection at Tescos

For two days, while the sun shone brightly, volunteers from the group shook their collecting tins at Tesco's at Monkspath and raised the very creditable sum of £472 pounds. Many thanks to everyone who gave up their time to help us, to all the shoppers who donated their cash and especially to Tesco for allowing us to collect at their store.Reward for one lucky volunteer was the sight of a buzzard flying over the car park.
