Starling perched on wall

Street collection

Despite the weather, which included snow in some places, 22 hardy RSPB supporters braved the cold to shake tins in Solihull and other local centres. Overall we collected £685 , which will all go to help with bird conservation in the Midlands area. Thanks to everyone who helped and to those who gave.
More volunteers next year would be most welcome

Short-eared owl sitting on the ground

Our skittles and quiz evening really enabled our supporters to show off their non-birding skills using both their brains and their sporting acumen. On the quiz side all teams demonstrated their spotting prowess in finding hidden words in a "word square" based around the seaside and fared quite well in identifying the feet of birds and mammals but were less successful in identifying islands by their shapes alone.
In the bowling it quickly became apparent that aim was far more important than brawn and the prize for best score in skittles went - by a big margin - to one of the Middleton Lakes RSPB volunteers. Well done Sue
