Robin sitting in grass

Great quiz

Our group quiz night with a fish & chip supper is the our main social event for the year and is always most popular. We were greatly saddened last summer to hear of the sudden death of the "resident" quiz mistress at the Highwood Inn who has given her services to so many charities over the years. However Dave, the landlord found us a new quiz master - Robin who turned up trumps. He had clearly put a lot of work into his preparation. Thanks Robin -highly enjoyable and the fish & chips were the usual top standard. Besides having a great evening we made a profit of £221. Thanks to everyone who came and supported us and to Dave for all his support and generosity.

Goosander on water

Walk at Sandwell Valley

Sunday 13th March was a glorious day for going out and enjoying birds and so it was no surprise that we had a turnout of 16 at our group walk at Sandwell Valley. Members who had not been before were amazed at seeing this huge green area right in the middle of the Birmingham/Black country conurbation. The new visitor centre is really splendid and there was a good variety of birds to see including most peoples' first little ringed plover of the year. Good numbers of goosander and two goldeneye were still about and most of the more common wildfowl. A grey wagtail was another great find. If you haven't been there the reserve is well worth a visit.
