OWN TRANSPORT FIELD TRIPS and MINIBUS FIELD TRIPS have been suspended for the foreseeable future because of Covid 19 and on the advice of RSPB.

INDOOR MEETINGS have also been suspended for the foreseeable future but we will be running monthly Zoom Presentations for current members on TUESDAY evenings at 7.30 pm from August 2020 onwards. For the group to cover the cost of our Zoom charge and the speaker's fee we suggest a donation after each meeting. You can pay online or send a cheque to our Treasurer.

"Speyside's Special Birds" by Steve Oakes

What a great way to get our Zoom season underway - a 30 minute talk by Steve on birds such as golden eagle, osprey and crested tit. Steve knows Speyside well and is able to will speak from first-hand experience about the birds of this beautiful part of the Cairngorms National Park. Steve's talk will be followed by a short summary of the Salisbury Cathedral peregrines in 2020 by Sue Walker with photos by James Fisher, stills from the webcam and some video footage. Wow, don't miss all this!

RSPB Campaigns Manager Andre Farrar has had a long career with the RSPB where his work included the issues facing three of our most vulnerable species - hen harriers, turtle doves and nightjars. We can still see all three species locally and tonight we find out the issues facing them and the measures being taken to ensure their continued survival.

Peter Robertson is the RSPB's Senior Sites Manager for Dorset; his talk covers the history of the RSPB on the Arne peninsula and a "virtual tour" of the varied habitats and amazing wildlife of this iconic nature reserve. From Dartford warbler to nightjar and from Purbeck mason wasp to ladybird spiders, RSPB Arne is one of the most biodiverse nature reserves in the UK.

Keith Betton has visited some of the world's most remote islands (such as Tristan da Cunha, Macquarie and Ascension Island) and in this talk he shares his experiences with us, showing us some of the world's rarest and most-threatened birds. Keith is the County Recorder for Hampshire and a superb communicator of his passion for birds.

"Letting Nature Takeover - Blashford Lakes and Fishlake Meadows " by Bob Chapman

Bob Chapman is Senior Reserves Officer for Hampshire Wildlife Trust and this is his story of the rewilding of two local nature reserves. Blashford Lakes is a former gravel pit complex now largely given over to wildlife and Fishlake Meadows was arable farmland kept dry by pumping and now with the pumps turned off it is a fabulous wetland - a mosaic of reedbed, open water and fen.
