Our latest midweek walk, organised by Yvonne Raxworthy and Corinne Housechild, was once again very successful. We all gathered at the Crooked Chimney, where lunch would be served later. Before the walk had even started, a red-legged partridge was seen by some in the fields behind the pub. We made our way through Brocket Park, alongside the edge of the golf course. To hear our first chiffchaff was lovely and one or two of us managed to see it too. With clear blue skies and a warm sunny day we stood on the bridge overlooking the lake and were rewarded with a pair of great crested grebes beginning their courtship.

We moved on to Lemsford Springs, and for some their first experience. We were able to see the green sandpipers, grey wagtails and the teal and some were lucky to see the snipe. We returned to the Crooked Chimney where our lunch orders were being prepared. Everybody had an enjoyable morning with a good list of birds seen (see below). Lunch was very good too but a pity the Gipsy Tart was no longer available!
