Willows Farm / Tyttenhanger Pits Outing Report

It was a sunny morning when I left to walk across the fields, and up through the farm to meet in the car park for the start of walk. We set off along the foot path to the woods,along the way checked out a pair of kestrels (m/f) in and out of an old tree, also in the field were pair of stock dove(m/f) plus magpies, jackdaws, crows and alpaca.

Into the woods several birds were heard blue tit, great tit, jay,blackbird, garden warbler, blackcap. At the junction with the conveyor belt did a clockwise route around the landscaped pit. Up on the viewing hide there were seen coot, tufted duck, great crested grebe, lapwing, common tern, a pair of buzzards and a sparrow hawk were seen over head, and a green woodpecker landed in the young trees in front of the hide.

From the hide down along the path by the River Colne an oyster-catcher flew across to the fishing lakes, also swifts and swallows were flying overhead, crossing back over belt to the lake opposite the hide had skylark up calling, further along saw whitethroat and some red-legged partridge.

Jackdaw, Magpie, Carrion Crow, Pied Wagtail, Gray Heron,Kestrel, Buzzard, Stock Dove,Wood Pigeon,Jay, Lapwing, Red kite, L B B Gull, Common Tern, Great Crested Grebe, Tufted duck, Black cap,Green Woodpecker, Sparrow hawk, Coot, Moorhen, Blue tit, Great tit, Mallard,Mute swan, Dunnock, Chaffinch, Oyster-catcher, Blackbird, Cormorant, Canada goose, Robin, Swallow,Swift, Skylark, Little-ringed Plover, Whitethroat, Red-legged Partridge (39)

Other birds heard:- Willow warbler, Sedge and Reed warblers, Lesser whitethroat, Cuckoo.

Butterflies:- Orange tip, Peacock, Small&Large white, Common blue, Speckled wood, Brimstone and Cinnabar moth
